Movies; as they were meant to be seen
Movies shown ON Film & in State-of-the-art digital projection

At the Bay Theatre, films are still presented in their original format, using authentic 16, 35mm projection that preserves the texture, warmth, and artistry of cinema’s golden age. Our projection room was brought into the modern era with state of the art digital projectors to complement the film ones. Every screening captures the flicker, sound, and atmosphere that directors and audiences once experienced, transporting viewers back to a time when moviegoing was an event. It’s not just watching a film; it’s reliving the magic of classic cinema in the way it was truly meant to be seen.

History of the Bay Theatre
Seal Beach's Movie TheatER
Originally opened in the mid-20th century, the theatre reflected the golden age of American moviegoing, when single-screen cinemas were community gathering places and filmgoing was both an event and a shared ritual. Over the decades, the Bay adapted to changing tastes and technologies while maintaining its intimate scale and character, remaining a familiar presence along Main Street as the town evolved around it. Today, the Bay Theatre stands as one of the last reminders of Seal Beach’s classic coastal entertainment history, valued not only for the films shown within its walls but for its role in preserving the town’s small-town identity and collective memory.

The Restoration
A Multi Year, Multi Million Dollar Restoration
After years of closure, the Bay is being carefully restored to its original splendor. From preserving authentic architectural details to modernizing projection and sound (Don't worry, we still show film too), the project blends historic preservation with today’s cinema experience, ensuring the theatre continues to inspire new generations of moviegoers.
